"I never promised you a ray of light." I sang as I sat on the couch in my dressing room, painting my nails. "I never promised there'd be sunshine everyday." I bobbed my head, twisting the music louder. I was practicing for tonight's show. And anyone who knew me at all knew that this was part of the ritual to get ready. I'd lock my door, flip the music up loud and paint my toe nails. I wasn't to be bothered. Not unless it was an emergency. Or it involved my son. Nothing less.

"I'll give you everything I have. The goooood. The baddd." I smiled at the flowers on my dressing room table before standing up and walking over to them. I plucked out the card, smiling when I read to Abby. Love your favorite fan. I peered inside the flowers, raising my eyebrow when I found a black box, however before I could take a peek I heard a knock. I huffed in frustration and walked over and unlocked my door. "This better be good." I said roughly as I opened the door. The face on the other end surprised me. I was trying to pinpoint where I had seen him. "Can I help you?" I was sure this had nothing to do with Lucas so it must be an emergency.

I rushed into the room. It had to be here somewhere. Binx wouldn't have called me to look after her if she didn't think that someone was really trying to kill her sister. They weren't really sisters, but ever since the whole ordeal with her 'rents and B dying, and the Samms took her in, she and Abigail had become sisters. They were close, closer than I'd ever known people to be. The way Binx wrote me and talked about her and Abigail, I had never known two people to be so close. But all that didn't matter right now. The only thing that mattered was protecting her.

I searched around the room for a moment, but then my eyes focused in on the flowers quickly took them, finding a small black box inside. "Out! Out in the hall!" I put the flowers down and ushered Abigail out into the hall before shutting the door and going back over to the box. Thankful for my training in Afghanistan and Iraq, I went back over to the flowers, taking the small black box out of it. Opening it, I found exactly what I feared. It was a bomb. A clock and three wires, red, blue and green attached to the clock and then to what I was sure was C4.

Looking at myself in the vanity mirror for a moment, I slowly inhaled and then pulled my Swiss army knife from my pocket. The green one. The green wire. From the clock. Inhaling deeply again, I flipped a blade out and snapped the wire. The clock stopped and it was fine to breath. I slid the box in my jacket pocket and turned back to open the door. "It is alright now. But I do not believe you should be doing the show tonight. I think it would be best if you took the night off."

"Excuse me!" I snapped, trying to fight him when the man pushed me out of my OWN dressing room! I knew him from somewhere but couldn't put my finger on it. He slammed the door in my face and I was so in shock I sat staring at it. But soon it opened and he informed me I shouldn't do my show. "Excuse me I don't know who in the hell you think you are buddy but I don't take orders from you!" I poked his chest with my finger, glaring at him before walking around him and back into my dressing room. I looked down at my toes and grunted. "You ruined my toe nail polish!" I spun around, glaring. "Who are you anyways? And why are you here?"

"I'm Bianca's cousin, Jackson Frost. She called me," I told her, crossing my arms across my chest. "And your damn toe nails will survive. You can paint them when we get home." Yes, I said when WE get home, because I was moving in with her. If she didn't catch onto that now, she would when we got back to her place. "So, get your shoes on or I'll carry you. Makes no difference to me, but we're leaving. Now."

"I'm not getting a damn thing on!" And then it clicked. B had mentioned a new security guard. I wasn't sure what was wrong with Foster. He was doing a fine job but I let her do whatever she deemed necessary because that was her job. But her cousin was an ass. "And there is no home for us to go too, Mr. Frost. Get out of my face. I need to get ready." I popped my head out in the hall. "Ginger, bring me a water and tell Sandy I'm ready for makeup." She nodded and ran off. "Goodbye, Mr. Frost." I smiled and went to shut the door.

Nope. Not happening. I grabbed the door, preventing her from shutting it in my face. "I'm not sure if you heard me, or you're just being your diva bitch self, but I said we're going. And we're going." I stepped forward, leaning forward and picking her up. I threw her over my shoulder and headed out of the dressing room, heading down the hall. "Ginger, disregard that order. Miss Diva is going home. Make her excuses." I walked down the hall toward the back door where my 'Stang was parked. We were going home.

"Do you have any idea what a sold out show means?!? It means thousands of people are going to be upset and demand a refund, assface!" I hit his back, struggling to get down. "LET ME GO!!! I swear to God I'm going to sue the shit out of you for this!" I kicked some. "Let go!!" I growled louder. "Ginger, call the cops!!!" I was sure she didn't hear me considering we were already toward the hallway to the parking garage but still. "Let go!!!"

"Does your safety not mean shit? Do you have any idea what I just did in your dressing room back there? Probably not. Well, let me clue you in," I said, walking out the door. "Your sister, my cousin, called me because she's worried for your safety. Someone is out to kill you, Miss Samms, and Binx doesn't want that to happen, so that is why I'm here. Want to take it up with some one, you take it up with here. I'm just here to do my job. Now hush your trap and get in the car." I said, putting her down and opening the door for her.

I glared, smacking his arm hard, only because I didn't like the way he was talking to me. "You aren't professional at all, assface! My real bodyguard would never have treated me this way. Your lucky I trust B's instincts or I'd tell you to shove it up your butt." I got in the car, shutting the door for myself, more so slamming it as hard as possible and tugging my seat belt on. It hit me what he had said. What had been in my dressing room that could possibly be dangerous? Deadly toe nail polish? I snickered to myself before making my face straight so he didn't see I thought he was as big joke. Which he was.

I walked around the car, shaking my head at her impudence. Taking a deep breath, I opened my door and slid in the car. "In the future, I'll thank you not to slam the door on my baby again." I turned the ignition on and turned to look at her before shaking my head again and pulling out of the alleyway.

"Your baby?" I scoffed, snorting a laugh. "Whatever." I folded my arms over my chest, folding one leg over the other. I couldn't believe I had to waste time with this cheeseball. Who the hell called their car a baby? I mean really? I snorted another laugh out before shaking my head and looking out the window. When we had been driving a while and I was silent for most of it I turned to him. "I need to pick my son up from my mother's is that allowed or does that go against your rules? Don't allow children in your baby?" I snorted another laugh.

I shook my head. "No, that's fine. Just tell me how to get there. We can go pick up your son. Not a problem. But just so you know, I'm not letting you out of my sight. And also, just so you know, I have men over at your place right now installing a new security system. Cameras set up all over the place. Only access to them will be from the room I'll be staying in. I'll give you the new passcode when we get home."

"Okay. I wanna fight you but if it makes me and my son safer, fine." I had been getting weird fan mail. Things that made my skin crawl but I figured that was what all celebs got so I didn't worry much but apparently it worried B so i guess I should just deal. "It's right here at the corner. Turn left." I mumbled, looking back out the window. "And," I looked over at him. "be nice to my son. He's had a tough time with trusting men since his father left so... please try and at least be a little civil with him. If you aren't I have no problem taking a baseball to your baby if you hurt mine."

I turned at the corner as she instructed, glancing at her shortly before turning my gaze back down the road. "No problem, Miss Samms. You two are practically family, since you're my cousin's sister and all. I wouldn't dream of frightening the little boy. How does he fare with your other bodyguards? Does he know that they're your guards or are they your friends? Just want to know where I would stand in his eyes."

"He sees the guards as friends. He wouldn't understand what guards meant he's only five." I folded my arms over my chest, smiling when Mom's estate came into view. I had bought her that place. It was bigger than even mine and B's apartment. But I wanted the best for her. She was the only parent I had left since daddy died, even if she hated me on most days I wanted the best. After he parked I turned to him.

"Stay here." I got out and ran up the steps, knocking and smiling when the door opened in a flash and Lucas ran out to me. I wrapped up in a tight hug, kissing his cheeks. "Hey, baby!" He hugged me back. "Hi, momma! Me and grandma made cookies!" I pulled back, looking at him. "You did? That's great!" Mom appeared clearly annoyed. "You're early. We were just about to make another batch." I shifted Lucas on my hip. "I'm sorry something came up." She looked over my shoulder, glaring at Mr. Frost. "A boy? Really, Abigail?" I sighed. "Mom he's my bodyguard." I hated having to explain myself like I was 12. "Say goodbye to grandma." Lucas did just that, grabbing his bag and we were on our way, even with mom bitching in the background. I helped Lucas in the backseat and buckled him in. He didn't have a carseat so this would have to do. "Don't move. Just sit there, okay?" He nodded, growing quiet because of the new stranger. I got in, putting my seat belt on. "Lucas, this is Jackson Frost. He's a friend of mommy's." He gave a weak smile. "Hi."

I had watched Abigail closely the entire time she was out of the car. I was going to go with her, and if she would have gone in, and the door would have shut, I most definitely would have gone in after her. But she hurried and was back in the car in no time.

She told her kid to say hi to me, and he did. I wasn't good with kids. I never had been. I was an only child. And Bianca was my only cousin. I wasn't used to other people, except for the guys I served with. When I was in high school, I didn't have many friends, but I could get any lady I wanted whenever I wanted. Frost family trait.

Clearing my throat silently, I nodded back to the tyke in the back seat through the rear-view mirror. "Hi, Lucas. Did you have a good day with your grandmother?" I guess that was the best way to start out as any. Besides, it helped me get to know the woman, even through a child's eyes, without really having to meet her.

"Yes," Lucas answered quietly, looking around the car. "She made cookies but momma made her angry by coming early." I shifted slightly, uncomfortable. "But she's always angry at momma." I sighed, looking at the window.

I turned my head to look over at Abigail briefly, narrowing my eyes in on her. "Is that true, Abigail. Is your momma always angry with you?" Not that I would suspect her mother for anything. She was her mother after all. But I needed to know everything about Abigail, from A to Z.

I raised my eyebrow, looking over at Jackson. "Yes, but how is that your business? And what does it matter? I disappoint her a lot. Mother loves me. I'm the one who isn't good enough." I looked back out the window, peeking in at Lucas in the back through the rear view window, watching as he walked his action figure back and forth on his leg.

I lowered my voice so her kid couldn't hear me. "Your life, every aspect of it, is my business. If you're going to go to the bathroom, I'm going to know about it. If you're going to go to the kitchen, I'm going to know about it. Everything you do is my business now. Get used to it, Miss Samms."

"You realize I can fire you? Right? So stop acting like you own me.. or run me... because you don't!" I glared at him, taking in a deep breath. I decided to top because I didn't want to do this in front of my son. "Lucas?" He popped his head up, looking at me. "Yes, Momma?" I smiled. "Would you like to eat before we go back to Jackson's house?" He nodded. "McDonalds?" He asked. I looked at Jackson. "Can we go through the drive through?"

I nodded, turning the car toward McDonalds. Keeping my voice low, I leaned closer to her, still keeping my gaze on the road. "No. You can't fire me. Your sister, my cousin hired me. I'm here employee. Have a problem with my methods?" I shrugged, sitting up straight, "Take it up with her."

I gripped my knees tight, just so I didn't hit him or yell at him. Not with my son here. I stayed quiet, only speaking when it was time to order. I told Jackson what I wanted and what Lucas wanted and let him order himself before handing over some money. "Here, I'll pay for you as well."

I nodded, taking the money and pulling up to the first window. I paid the cashier and she told me to pull up to the next window. Pulling up to the next window, I sat back and waited for them to bring our food to the window. "So, Lucas," I started slowly. I didn't feel like making small talk with Abigail, so I chose to make it with the little man. "You like sports or anything like that? Do you like video games?"

"I love basketball! Momma says I got that from my grandpa. He loved it too! My momma doesn't like it. She says it's boring. My Uncle Dante use to like it before he got sick." I shifted uncomfortably, closing my eyes. I hadn't thought about my brother in forever. Hearing his name made my chest ache.
